SHWD System Report, Post Hurricane Irene
Due to proper planning and the tireless efforts of Water District emergency crews working throughout the storm and afterwards, we are pleased to report that not a single South Huntington Water District customer lost water service during Hurricane Irene nor was there any change at all in our excellent water quality.
Like many of our customers, we were without LIPA power at numerous District production and treatment sites and had to transition to emergency generator power. That somewhat limited our total water production capacity, but ensured an adequate water supply for normal, everyday cooking, bathing, and sanitary uses. Equally important, our emergency preparedness was never compromised, especially for fire-fighting capability and reserves.
